Irish Heritage Textiles: A love story in Linen
Using linen fabric and thread we would embroider original Irish flowers and explore traditions around irish embroidery and creating as a community.
What are the most Irish Irish flowers? Using original patterns developed specifically for the course the participants had a go at embroidering clovers, roses, and dandelions. We used the different stages of the flower to experiment with different stitches- raised embroidery was the focus of these series so there were many Raised Stem Stitches, Bullion Knots, Raised Chains, French Knots, Buttonhole Wheels, Padded Satin Stitches, Woven Wheels, and feathered knotts. The course is set up so that people could do one class, a few classes or all of the classes. You would always go home with a brooch, a small framed piece or if you joined us for the duration of the course participants have discovered their inner embroidery queen.
